Marble is a beautiful natural material with a wide range of colors to choose from, some
offering unusual patterns and veining. You can see from the image at left that marble is quite a luxurious countertop material that works very well with dark cabinetry, especially on islands.
However, since marble tends to be significantly more porous
than granite, it is more likely to stain than a granite countertop. Sealers will help protect it from staining, but acidic substances such as orange juice or tomato sauce can leave permanent "etches" or dull marks.
Because of these drawbacks, marble is often better used as a decorative backsplash element rather than as a countertop. |
In addition to stones such as granite and marble, and composites such as concrete, there are synthetic countertop materials for you to consider.
