The special Kitchen & Bath section in the March 9, 2008 issue of The Boston Globe Magazine is titled "Exotic Woods: Today's Hottest Trend in Kitchen Cabinetry and Flooring" and there are several quotes from Don Rodd, designer and assistant manager of Kitchen Views Custom.
Kitchen Views Custom designers have experience with these special woods and sell the cabinetry brands mentioned in the article: Irpinia and Corsi. The Gotham Vignette is a perfect example. Another example is the private residence3 in the Kitchen Views portfolio section.
"The use of exotics is completely driven by the European contemporary look and style," asserts Don Rodd. This style is characterized by flat paneled doors with striking wood grains. The exotic wood panels are finished with a high gloss, and simple hardware elegantly completes the look. This clean, contemporary style with unique wood is sought by high-end clients desiring one-of-a-kind living spaces.
Environmentally-conscious builders and homeowners in the luxury home market are also now seeking earth-friendly materials. Irpinia cabinetry is the perfect choice. In fact, the manufacturer of Kitchen Views’ exclusive frameless cabinetry line, Irpinia, is now offering cabinetry that has no Urea Formaldehyde added during the manufacturing process. Using certified recycled content and sustainable raw materials, the product can contribute to achieving Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) credit. What’s more, the availability of a variety of door styles made from bamboo and lyptus enables Irpinia and Kitchen Views Custom to offer yet another means of utilizing renewable assets.
While the lead-time for "exotic wood cabinetry from high-end, full-custom cabinety manufacturers can be fifty to seventy-five percent longer than with domestic wood", according to Don Rodd, it's well worth the wait for a living space that will be enjoyed for years to come.
