Extreme
elegance for entertaining, yet functional and warm for
a busy family of six, were the goals for this spacious
addition to a 1920's New England Colonial.
Taking
advantage of the high ceilings, the designer created
this grand appearance with a mixed palette of fine cabinetry,
detailed crown mouldings, and an integrated custom hood.
In scale with a 12 ft. island, each of these features
melded seamlessly with the columns and coffered ceiling
in the adjoining family room.
Beaded
inset cabinetry by Woodharbor, with antique white paint
and a coffee glaze finish, was selected for the periphery
of the kitchen. The same door style was used for the
cherry cabinetry in the island and the butler's pantry,
for which a custom finish was created to maintain the
historic integrity of the house.
