Contractor: CATAMOUNT BUILDERS is comfortable working downtown in the city, as they have their office on Summer Street in Boston.

This AFTER photo shows the new location of a microwave oven in the upper cabinets above the coffee center and dishwasher near the slightly relocated sink in the redesigned kitchen.

Colors are difficult to see in an online photograph. In person, the kitchen has excellent light, where the Blue in the Cambria Port Rush countertop against the Gold of the oversized pulls with the idiosyncratic choice of a Benjamin Moore Bunker Hill Green is stunning in the space. In a kitchen without good light, the Bunker Hill Green would probably not work.

The client majored in art at college and the wealth of knowledge she acquired meant she had a strongly defined sense of what she preferred and what she was trying to accomplish.

In the kitchen as it was before the renovation, she didn’t like that the cabinets didn’t go to the ceiling, and she disliked the microwave over the stove but wanted to have a microwave.

She disliked the color white for cabinetry, preferring it for the countertops, and wanted to improve the functionality of the kitchen cabinets. She wanted a green, but found the greens offered by Ultracraft unsatisfactory. The nice thing with Ultracraft is being able to choose a custom color. This added some time to the turnaround on the order because a sample door is required to be ordered and approved by the client prior to the cabinets being scheduled for production but meant she could get exactly the color she wanted.

With 48” cabinets and a flat moulding scribed to the ceiling, the client was able to get the height and coverage she wanted. On this job kudos go to the carpenters of CATAMOUNT BUILDERS for the excellent job they did scribing the flat moulding to the ceiling.

By using a space saver microwave under a specially adjusted wall cabinet, she was able to get her microwave while maintaining the functionality of the space and not overwhelming the space. With this solved, a chimney hood and a full height counter entirely changed the feel of the space.

Special Storage Feature

LeMans pull-outs photographed as already installed during construction of the green kitchen and a product photo from Häfele show how these pull-outs make the corner storage efficient and easy to access.

The functionality of the cabinets was greatly improved. In addition to the LeMans pull-outs to the right of sink, there are lazy susans spinners in the corner upper wall cabinet, more top drawers in the base cabinets, and not shown are a spice pull-out and a trash pull-out.
