Bristol, Rhode Island Kitchen

Private Residence | Major Renovation

Builder: Jud Frey

Open sightlines were key to combining a fully functional kitchen with the open concept great room. Lisa accomplished this by creating two large islands that define the kitchen space and by placing the refrigerator and stove with upper cabinetry along the wall. A small prep island near the stove works seamlessly to provide sufficient workspace for cooking. Anyone in the kitchen area can still be part of whatever is happening in the comfortably furnished living room and dining room areas. Water views are enjoyed from every vantage point.

The owner was intent on a complete remodel that would transform the house into a jewel appropriate for the setting, resulting in a completely new home. Given free rein to transform the blank slate, designer Lisa Zompa says such freedom requires experienced, intuitive creativity and detailed planning.

The two larger islands are made of cherry with ginger stain cabinety to look like furniture when seen from the living room area.

Only the painted eucalyptus cabinets on the main wall of the kitchen where the stove is located indicate it's a kitchen. Appliances are concealed with matching panels of cabinetry.
